At the pool I currently go to, one of the regulars is a woman with Down syndrome. She's fairly heavy and wears an old fashioned swimsuit, the sort with a ruffled skirt. Then there's the bathing cap that straps beneath her chin and is decorated with rubber flowers. Odd is the great satisfaction I take whenever I beat her from one end to the other. "I won three out of four," I told Hugh the first time she and I swam together. "I mean I really creamed her."
"Let me get this straight," he said. "She's obese. She's as old as you are. And she has Down syndrome?"
"Yes, and I beat her. Isn't that great!"
"Did she even know you were having a race?"
I hate when he gets like this. Anything to burst my bubble.

PRIVET from the nations capital!! that story is from the book i just finished reading. heather sent it to me while i was in florida, noting that the title of this book was appropriate do to the second degree burn i had on my legs while i was there. anyway, after reading this story, i cracked up and thought of the 40 your old guy who lived above us who had downs and that jared and i use to play basketball with. i do recall him getting very upset at times whenever jared would make an easy shot that he couldn't stop. this made me want jared to score even more! (i know, i'm going to hell...but it truly was funny!)

everything is good here in virginia. illya is working his tail off 6 days a week, trying to make as much money as he can so he and i can start school when we get back. we really hope this job is the answer to our prayers for the whole school thing.

the only work i'm doing currently is working on my tan and working out in the gym 6 days a week. i've decided that there's no reason for me to not work out every day for an hour if i don't have a job and since i don't have kids.

speaking of, no we are not pregnant!! i know some of you are thinking we might come home that way, but every month when my friend comes to visit is like a little gift to us. "ah, Heavenly Father... i knew You cared!!"

anyway, i'll update more later. it's 91 degrees, the sun is shining and the pool is calling my name! by the way, the pic in the corner is of a sunset here in ashburn. it doesn't touch an oregon sunset, but still...

Kim only read the first part of that post, and then told me and Dad that you were racing and betting a girl with downs. I took the computer and read the rest. Still a funny story, but Kims version was much better!

HAHAHA!! if only! but, if it makes her feel better, after swimming a few laps in our apartment pool, i watched a few 12 year old mexican girls swim a few laps themselves. as one dove into the pool, then came up for air 10 feet from her starting point, i couldn't stop myself from thinking, "please! i went double that length before needing air! she's pathetic." yes, i should be so proud.
